STAGE 9: Antofagasto > Iquique
Connection 9km | Special Stage 556km | Total 565km
COURSE OVERVIEW
A two-part stage will keep the competitors busy who continue the climb to the north of the continent, between oceans and mountains. Two sections separated by a neutralization are on the agenda with varied features and landscapes. At the beginning of the day, the competitors will pass through canyons, drive on clean tracks and sink in the fesh fesh?! The second special stage will call upon the drivers' and co-drivers' navigational talents, who will have to make a decision based on the very limited landmarks, while remaining focused on the WPM. To reward them for this intensive endeavour, they will drive down the steep descent to Iquique, already featured on the 2010 Dakar route, to the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Finally at wp8
Checking things over, there are only 4 vehicles with someone from the USA in the crew. Two cars, a bike and a truck with one crew member. So a maximum of 6 people from the USA at the finish line.
took the bikes about an hour, so it'll be a quick stage
Lead is dwindling.... Robby will likely put some time on them at the end, but it would have been awesome to have the 3 minutes in hand that he had earlier. Go Go Robby!
Check out the profile of stages 13 and 14. Tons of sand. All Robby needs to do is keep it consistent until then and he should be able to run away with it. If he can gain any time until then that that is a bonus.
disregard the 19 sec lead. Peterhansel cant make up time during the tarmac & that CP5 begins the next section.
the update at KM510 will show the real position
19:52 Cars: Peterhansel on the attack at CP5
At CP5, approximately 80 kilometres before the end of the special, Stephane Peterhansel is only 19 seconds behind the day’s leader Robby Gordon. Poland’s Holowczyc, 2’26” behind in third, leads Spaniard by 2’06”. For the moment, only the first four drivers have reached CP5.
