Quotes from Stage 9 of the 2012 Dakar Rally
Robby Gordon - WINNER!
" It was a very good special for us again. Now it's just a waiting game to see how soon Peterhansel comes behind me. On the transfer stage, I think we had him beat by about a minute and a half. But we need more than a minute and a half, so I pushed very hard on the last section, as hard as I could go the whole time and it will be interesting to see how much time we put on him because we pushed, like qualifying hard, not really knowing where you're going. We had a couple of big scary moments. For us, we've got to make time. We're in a different position to him. He has to conserve his time and I've got to make it. We've got four days left, four real days of racing left and the Hummer's strong. 19 seconds? He made a lot of time up on me, then. I can't believe he could catch us there, because we were going crazy. So he's a madman; if he beats us, he's a madman. Madder than me! "

That's just it, isn't it. Nasser drives like a madman. Alternator belt or not, Im guessing up to this point in the race, That Hummer took more punishment than any vehicle. Im sure the 2nd support truck gave him some encouragement to push harder and harder.
Great stuff from Johnny-

JOHNNY CAMPBELL QUOTE OF THE STAGE (FIRST DAKAR STAGE WIN)
"Went good. Careful in the rocks for no flats, went fast in rough, hummers advantage. Nav went good and the decent to Iqueque was the scariest thing I ever did - RG was matted at 205kph! Omg I was freaking out!!!"
Thanks for posting that Will, i was wondering how Campbell's ride was after hearing RG talk about pushing it Qualifying style, Good stuff!
Thank you will thats awsome scareing Johnny Cambell can be no small feat!!
I guess that Nasser answered the question of whether he'd come back with RGM next year in that recap video. What a downer on such a good day.
x2
Yep he's a racer who didn't win, and that doesn't sit well but he gave the 300 one hell of a ride.
NASSER QUOTE..."why would you drive a VW when you could drive a ZO6 with wheel travel".
It looked like he had fun........to bad he DQed.
It's hard to tell if Nasser's problems stemmed from his style of driving or parts fatique , regardless he was something to behold in that Hummer very exciting to track , I personelly am glad he was along for the ride , definitly one hell of a driver , I just hope that all is copasetic with he and Robby and doesn't blame them for his withdrawal I'm sure the team did their best for him.
