STAGE 9 TRACKING

STAGE 9: Antofagasto > Iquique

Connection 9km | Special Stage 556km | Total 565km

COURSE OVERVIEW

A two-part stage will keep the competitors busy who continue the climb to the north of the continent, between oceans and mountains. Two sections separated by a neutralization are on the agenda with varied features and landscapes. At the beginning of the day, the competitors will pass through canyons, drive on clean tracks and sink in the fesh fesh?! The second special stage will call upon the drivers' and co-drivers' navigational talents, who will have to make a decision based on the very limited landmarks, while remaining focused on the WPM. To reward them for this intensive endeavour, they will drive down the steep descent to Iquique, already featured on the 2010 Dakar route, to the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Thanks for the words of reason, best as you said if we hear it straight from Peterhansel. Also enjoying what seems to be an honest appriciation for what they are each doing.

i dont think any thing will happen to a FRA driver from a FRA sanctioning body. not when it would/could cost him the race.
just saying.

My thought exactly !!!

right, there's no way the dakar legend and current leader will get a penalty.

I don't think that was very good judgment on Peterhansel's part... I doubt the stewards will take kindly, regardless of nationalities. What's to stop lower extremity injuries? You just don't take that chance when you can't see. It's a race, yes, but safety most come before all else!

Peterhansel was in a tough spot. Current was pushing towards bike no track to the left and the bike was in the middle of the course. The only penalty I see is under:
29P4 DRIVERS’ CODE
1) General
a) Competitors and crews must behave with respect both on the route and with regard to:
citizens in the countries that are travelled through,
other competitors,
the Organisers.
Any impoliteness which is proven will be subject to a penalty of €500.
b) Any incorrect, fraudulent or unsporting action carried out before or during the Event by the
competitor or members of the crew will be judged by the Sporting Stewards, who may impose a
penalty which can go as far as exclusion or allow an Organiser to refuse the entry of the
incriminated competitor(s) or to refuse them the start.

He wont get excluded for that.

This is the video of RG when he bumps an other driver. In my memory, he got 15mn of penalties.

Read this--they seem to take their safety seriously:

ROBBY GOT PENALTY FOR BUMPING A CAR PETER BUMPED A HUMAN HE NEEDS A PENALTY NOW!

I ASSuME you're talking about a previous year, correct?

What was Robby's penalty when he bumped the other car?

Mark Miller said if Stage 10 is similar to what it was last year Robby will dominate tomorrow...

Could be an interesting/exciting day...
