STAGE 11 TRACKING

STAGE 11: Arica > Arequipa

Connection 120km | Special Stage 478km | Total 598km

COURSE OVERVIEW

For the Dakar's first day in their country, Peruvians will be entitled to two special stages and additional kilometres for the motorcyclists. After a day spent switching between off-piste sections and areas interspersed with rivers, they will benefit from a moment of camaraderie?: a specific bivouac will be set up for them before they continue exploring Peru. The concept, which had not been tried out again since the camp of Foum Zguid in Morocco during the 2007 Dakar, will also create a major obstacle which will affect the management of the race. The assistance vehicles will not be authorized in the maintenance area, where only the motorcyclists and quad riders will be able to help each other.

I've been using it since the beginning. Don't really need it for RG but it is great for keeping tabs on cars farther back. Such as my Canadian boys who are so far back they are just finishing stage 8 I think, but they are still in it and going!

Likwise for American driver Darren Skilton who is almost 38 hrs back but still running !

Great, now I really want to run Dakar. I wonder how hard it would be to put glass back in Project Trouble...

Hey, 457 has been top 30 all day! Nice! 45 over-all, it's going to be a fun fight to try and break into the top 40.

Yes they are doing quite well, just get to the end and be the first Canadians to finish this thing!

Does anybody have any updates on why Robby is stopped at KM199?

Its tarmac... Not sure? Did he throw out the GPS!?

Dakar app says he stopped in a hamlet at the beginning of the liasion and hasn't moved.. but suggested he never restarted his tracker..

18:22 Cars: Problems for Gordon?

At the end of the first zone of the special, the car category competitors all headed via the link route to the start of the second zone, except Robby Gordon who stopped in a hamlet after 199 km of the route, near to the town of Moquega. His GPS has not emitted a signal since 10.46 AM local time. Is the American trying to solve a technical problem that slowed him down towards the end of the first zone? Whatever the case, the start time for the second zone is approaching and unless he has forgotten to restart his Iritrack system, he is still 140 km away from the zone 2 starting point

No body a bigger Robby fan than I we just like to lighten it up a bit. I have met him at Mid Ohio, Bristol FBO, Jim Beam HQ with the Noe brothers and others. I will be there own there next year to cheer him on.

Gordon still at a standstill

The signal emitted by Robby Gordon's Hummer has been pinpointed again at the 199-km point on the day's stage, the same place at which he stopped more than 1 hour forty minutes ago. The American is still at a halt at this point, whereas Roma and Peterhansel are poised to reach the start of zone 2.

Maybe he is having a cup of tea with Nasser.
