STAGE 11 TRACKING

STAGE 11: Arica > Arequipa

Connection 120km | Special Stage 478km | Total 598km

COURSE OVERVIEW

For the Dakar's first day in their country, Peruvians will be entitled to two special stages and additional kilometres for the motorcyclists. After a day spent switching between off-piste sections and areas interspersed with rivers, they will benefit from a moment of camaraderie?: a specific bivouac will be set up for them before they continue exploring Peru. The concept, which had not been tried out again since the camp of Foum Zguid in Morocco during the 2007 Dakar, will also create a major obstacle which will affect the management of the race. The assistance vehicles will not be authorized in the maintenance area, where only the motorcyclists and quad riders will be able to help each other.

Anyone know how long you can sit during a liason? I know you can't change parts from the bikes a few years ago when Coma changed a tire but don't know the rules other then that.

From Live Comments: "The American restarted along the link route several minutes ago. He now has to reach the start of the second zone, which is located approximately 130 kilometres away."

18:48 Cars: Gordon back on the road

The American restarted along the link route several minutes ago. He now has to reach the start of the second zone, which is located approximately 130 kilometres away.

If that's the case, and RG doesn't get penalized for stopping (seems they want to penalize him for something) it'll be a while before we get him thru tracking...

Does anyone know the rules? Do you have to hold your place in line during the link stage? Or can you legitimately stop and if you don't miss the cutoff time continue picking up your time from where you left off? I would think that the only penalty would be potentially picking your way through the bikes, quads, buggys, and trucks that may have passed you while stopped. Anyone confirm?

Are they in Montreal?

According to one page there are time limits set, and if you miss them you will get a penalty. No idea what the time limit set for that section of the stage is.

The tough thing is that it looks like a closed bivouac tonight. No support vehicles allowed... Hope he didn't break something large. Maybe I'm reading the Stage 11 overview wrong though. It mentions motorcycles and quads for that limitation and not cars. Anyone know?

I think it's only closed for the Bikes and Quads. But I may be mistaken.

I'm hoping you are right!

Marathon for bikes and quads only, seperate bivouac for cars and trucks

robby is over 1 hour behind peterhead
