Thanks mj ! I understand the whole flex thing. My kids and I found ourselves down at the park running on grass and a make shift hill that made a great jump. Down at the local hobby shop I inquired about where to run these and got to turned on to an awesome track that somebody spent alot of effort building it almost replicates Glen helen with the huge uphill berm shot and several jumps. then there is this stadium track that is laid out with whoops, single double & triple jumps along with berm shots & flat track hair pins we struck gold cause it dont cost to enter that is unless you get a trespassing ticket!
It is in Lake Forest, California if anyone is interested in where its at.

Did you get the kids their own RCs yet or they driving daddy's lol . I really like seeing parents getting their kids involved as a family . I don't have any kids of my own but I've been in the hobby so long I know how great it as not only a learning tool but keeping kids busy . I know Tooltime has a great time with his son and any chance I get I help new kids get involved at our races and RC truck pulls that my club puts on . We even have a couple of trucks set aside that they can use to try out the hobby before buying one . HAVE FUN and tell the kids there is only 1 rule
NO FAIR BEING FASTER THAN DAD ! Lol

I have two of the RG trucks that are set-up and so much fun to drive. I have one that is still in the box, as I can barely keep up with two of these orange monsters running together with the kids driving them.
We have curved gutters on the side walk to the street and you can launch them on to the grass in the yard, probably about 5 feet of air time.
Sometimes they make it, sometimes they barrel roll and keep going.
I have them on setting 3, which is the slowest, and they are still crazy fast for us. Looking into getting a faster charger or better batteries, because they take too long to charge after a run. The kids scream and when the occasional car drives by, we race-em down the street. FUN.

Actually the kids (girls) got theirs xmas morning charged ready to go!
they blew past the Ipad,The Kindle, & even the Hello Kitty stuff! went right to the trucks!!!
I had to eventually get my own (cause they dont share) and then the wife got invovled. (cause I dont share)
So now its four trucks. and my kids are pretty good at it. its hard to keep up with them & they are only 8 & 10

I support and agree with what mj stated about using the annoed parts.

I, personally, will be very selective on which parts to change to annoed parts. I want to keep the flex benefits of the truck.

Parts that I am considering are; caster blocks, steering blocks, stub axle carriers, shock caps and steering bell crank.

To me these parts will help tighten up the steering but not go overboard on adding weight and will not create and overly rigid chassis.

Disclaimer: I consider myself to be in the beginner category of the R/C hobby. So please don't assume my statements are based off of years of experience.

Sounds like we had the same type of Christmas! The girls got all there stuff, ages 9 & 11, and then I brought out the good stuff. We went from Christmas Tree and gifts, straight to the front yard.
I am pretty sure the trucks have magnets on them, because they couldn't keep them away from each other, or they had no clue which orange truck was theirs. I think i need to put flags on them, or paint one a different color.
I think I will go with the flags, because I don't have that kind of time.
No crazy parts on our trucks, we will just run-em....still crazy fast and fun.
I can see it coming though, racing cars down the street, eventually one will get turned the wrong way, and that will be it....

Splat I suggest buying at least 3 packs , what you do is cycle them . Meaning while your running pack 1 pack 2 is on stand by while you use pack 2 pack 1 is being recharged and while you run pack 3 pack 2 is being recharged and you just keep cycling thru them that way . Depending on the charger and packs you get you could in theory run continuously

what about letting batterys & electric motor cooling between runs ? urban myth?

I am new to all this, but from what I was told, the quick starting and stopping, is not good for the electric motor. Need to let them run.....keep the motor cool. Just what I have heard.....if I am wrong, Please tell me.

Splat with the stock motors yes it's not good to start and stop but there are some tricks you can do to help most importantly is to keep them clean once a wk or so remove the motor and spray it with some motor cleaner I use Performance Plus 3 Motor spray just stick the nozzle in the motor and spray it will dissipate all the dirt and gunk that builds up on the motors armature and brushes ( big suggestion though TO KEEP THE BETTER HALF HAPPY do it over an old bath towel IT MAKES A MESS ) it's a little late now but you can also help break in the motor by submersing it under a pool of water and running it for a few secs while it's connected to a battery just touch the battery leads to the correct wires on the motor ( + to + / - to - )

Yes good idea to let them cool a lil mostly between changing packs and stuff like that 15 - 20 mins between runs is sufficient I should've been a lil more clear as to my wording I didn't mean run nonstop all the time I meant more continuously than having to wait like an hr or so between packs sorry to confuse you on that you can also help cooling by using a fan directed on your electronics and packs while charging them .
