My personal weirdest race was waaaay back in 1992 racing a class 7s Toyota. I refused to pee in my uniform and driveer seat, so I pulled over to go. As I was standing there having a smoke, (hey why not, I was already out of the car), and doing my business the new class leader came by waving at me. We ended up losing the race by a mere 5minutes. That was the difference i suppose!
p.s. I still wont go in my suit, or seat! Just for the record!
That dam TOOL has gotten me in more trouble over the years!
Really got me thinking. I seen alot of strange stuff over the years. Somewhere near the top of the list would be the NH race that was postponed from Sept to Nov 2001. Seeing the track "coming to life" and stores stocking up for the weekend, only to have nothing happen was a strange sight to witness. It ended with an entire Cup weekend held in one day in late November.
Lucky the weather was nice, and Robby got his first Cup win.
Another one would be at Texas (not a race, but a practice day) in a tornado warning. The stands were cleared and everyone was sent to the bathrooms and conssesion stands (block buildings) under the grandstands. All the bathrooms became mixed gender.
May not be to weird, but memorable.
wierdst for me was june 1990 STCA El Mirage race and going around race day listening to people talk about the guy that died the night berore
and laughing about it.
the night before i was stung by a scorpion on the hand and had to be transported to the hospital by helocopter at 1AM in the mourning
(had allergic reaction and quit breathing 3 times)
everyone was saying i died but wouldnt belive it was me cuz i quit breathing
now every racecar i build someone has a small scorpion painted on it somewhere
I THINK MY FAMILY IS SICK AND CRUEL
Niiiiice Tim. Funny for the Scorpion decal, not the transport and breathing thing though! The scorpion hidden on the car thing is exactly something right up my alley. lol
You sure we are not related?
just have lots of dumb luck TOOL broke my back in 84 and was still using wheelchair when scorpion thing happened (i guess it just rode up wheel and got me)
the other slogan that is on all my racecars is "HIRE THE HANDICAPED THEY ARE FUN TO WATCH!!!"
and the new sandrail im building wont have paint so scorpion decal will be hard to hide
Some of you may remember this one it was early on in the Mickey Thompson stadium series when they were holding the races at the horse track on the LA county fair grounds in pomona part way through the racing fog started rolling in and by the time they ran the final for the trucks you couldn't see the whole back half of the course from the stands. It couldn't have been fun for the drivers having basicly wet dust sticking to your goggles or visors.
