Hi all,

I am trying to learn more about Robby's first stint as a car owner in 2000 when he owned the no.13 car. Can anyone please provide some insight as to how it all came to be, whether the was any significance with the number 13 and any other circumstances that you think are relevant?

I became a fan of NASCAR in 2001 and Robby in 2002, so it was all a bit before my time. But it's something that has always interested me, yet information on it is hard to find. It's the same with pictures, there aren't that many that I know of. Does anyone have any that they could share please?

Thanks for your help!

Ben.

Well thats why your here. Lots of people may know the answer better than me but...I.do know rob was in the 4 Kodak car in the 2001 Daytona 500
I remember reading about his time at MMM in school when I was supposed to be doing work lol. I think it got ugly with them over several things. He wanted to run his own chassis and there was a big disagreement over equipment I believe. I'm glad he left there anyway, RCR was much better for him.

True, but he basically got Larry to pay for his contractafter he was let go. Form the outside looking in the MMM Kodak car looked like a good ride...that was not the case...multiple drivers and on the way out the door for the company

At the Vegas race in 2001 I was in the pit stall next to the 4 car one pit stop Robby was freaking out inside the car.it was great

Don't know a whole lot about the 2000 season, but Jayski does have many of the paint schemes that he ran that season:

While the team was considered to be Robby's, I am pretty sure the 13 car was owned by John Menard and the first RGM NASCAR team was the 55 Busch car with support for RCR while driving th 31 car. Folllowing the 2004 season with Childress he purchased assets and the 7 team from Jim Smith to field a Cup car.

Where they came up with 13 I don't know but would like to know if there is a story behind it. Was it chosen by Robby or John?

Rob,

From what I recall about the 2000 13, Rob, John Menard, and Mike Held (currently a partner in Triad Technology, "the old Bill Davis Rcaing and RG's Toyota engine supplier)were the owners of record. The 55 Busch car was RGM owned and the win at Richmond was awesome, I remember I could not watch the race and later went to check out the finish of the race and found out RG won, what an awesome day. I dont know the story behind the 13 number, but I do recall an old interview with RG talking about the number 13, and that he was not worried that many thought the 13 was a supersticious number.

From what I recall the 13 cars and shop were leased from Irvin - Simo. I will try to dig up some pictures from the old Team Gordon days. Some intresting items from that year were the Daytona "scuffle" with Tony Stewart, RG testing the rain tires at the Glen, and then not Q due to Q being rained out. The Watkins Glen 13 Ford had the Purple colors of Sonys Wega line of TV's, which I to this day think is one of the best liveries that RG has had. Also, this year RG was one of the first in the garage to have dual primary sponsors, which many in the garage were shocked, now we find this to be the norm.

Robby -Tony daytona dust up -you mean the picture Rob Hoban uses for his avatar?

That's the one! Hisotically one of my favorite Robby Gordon moments. I realized at that time that this guy takes $hit from no one. I also remember the commentary from who ever was broadcasting at the time saying that "Robby went to a gang fight and forgot his gang." The look on his face that day was priceless as Robby put the fear of God into a once thinner Tony Stewart.

I just remember Robby walking away from Tonys garage stall and then Tony pushed RG's back and then it was on. I also remember one of Tonys crew men giving RG a nice cheap shot. That pic, is classic , "mess with the bull, you get the horns"
