I know there are a lot of long-term Off-Road guys here, figured this could lead to an interesting discussion.

I'd hate to explain tarring tires
@Will , agreed.Robby is being inclusive sponsor wish, tire manufacture wish, maybe manufacture wish(by not putting bowtie logo's everywhere)-Robby is making the SST rules exclusive by providing/renting ALL the trucks for the series.
CART vs IRL all over again and money and the dummies won and wrecked CART, the best open wheel racing series ever, Money and smart guys means bad racing like the irl and nascrap. I sure hope the SST and ROBBY kick some as......
From what I have read Lucas has been expecting Torx to host a west coast race for a while, but they were caught off guard by what they are doing just the same. They are promising a very big purse and no entry fees. Then the icing on the cake is making it a memorial to dead racers that were popular. I think Torx figured that by doing that if Lucas tried to do anything like what Bob Pattison did the bad press and ill will would be so tremendous Lucas would never consider doing it. Wrong answer.... Well, Torx should have checked Bob's shorts first and they would have seen a huge pair of huevos.
Those of you that aren't or weren't racers will have to trust me on this. Promoter do this shit all the time, but very seldom publicly like Lucas did. NASCAR did this for years and you see how it worked out. And for all of you NASCAR haters. If you have a better please just go do it or just craw back under your favorite rock.
Then there is the 600 lb gorilla in the room...... Robby Gordon. Lucas knows just how popular and powerful Robby is and that going to war with him could risk sinking their ship. They looked at what Robby is doing and probably their first thought was "Motherfucker why didn't we think of that?" No one in motorsports has ever done what Robby is trying to do. It is brilliant! I think Lucas did a smart thing by picking the battle they might win. So they are focusing on Torx.
Think deeply about what Robby has dreamed up for a "spec series?" The cars are basically the same, but it is BYO sponsors, vehicle manufacturers, paint schemes, tires, suspension. Oh yeah and BYO fans. This is just too cool! I can see the same formula used in stock cars, drag racing, and rally cross already. What next? Snowmobiles? If I had the bucks and the clout I would be putting together a stock car series tonight based on what Robby is doing.
Spec stock cars were mentioned long ago....as taboo by most. One shoe fits and it fits well, but not every foot. This SST is a matter of many conditions in the sense that it is a NEW series while all others would be a TRANSFORMATION. (regarding spec rides) There are more than a few references that put the SST in the picture (on this board) and final outcome of the Lucas thing but for the time being they (outdoor short course) remain a different animal to compete with. There will be one deciding factor and only one by the next time the 4th of July comes around,,,,that being, where are the fan showing up? From where I come from it's a hard fact to live by but in the end it often remains the one you do. "It all comes out in the wash".
Let's all just take a step back to consider the possible options that a driver would have with a series like what the SST has been presented to be at this point. As a driver you will need ;
(1) A sponsor('s) willing to provide the body work, tires, shock absorbers, and entry fee.
(2) Two crew members that are capable of preparing a rig within the rules given by the governing body.
Now, if these races were to run on dates that were not in conflict with said drivers contractual obligations in some other race series, then why the hell not race the SST series? We would be talking chump change in comparison to running a race in the series that the driver is already racing in. Many of us here are old enough to remember the IROC races (if your'e not that old, search you tube under IROC) Now shove that format into a stadium full of dirt and you have pure gold for the racers, sponsors and fans.
Maybe LOORS is not going anywhere, but TORC is!?
My guess:
1. TRAXXAS is going to be the SST Series Sponsor.
2. SST series will merge in some of the TORC series scheduled events.
Goodbye TORC, hello TRAXXAS SST Series!!!
Sorry LOORS! Gonna hate what you wished for! (Back to not allowing SPEED Energy at one of your SoCal races).
The greedy bastards are going to screw them selves out of business....This is what happens to motorsports when gate fees (admission) and TV gets involved.... BIG $$$ Fu(ks all good things up (NASCAR is a perfect example)...Long live desert racing SCORE BITD MORE HDRA and the like...its pure racing against the elements and time..... free entry to pull up your OWN truck, drop the tailgate and watch multi millionaires (and some po folk like our team) thrash the sheit out of there state of the art machinery, drink some suds, soak up some sun and after the race, meet the drivers at the awards without a neck lanyard full of BS passes! (which by the way can be forged with a little effort)
