Robby Gordon #315 ( Started 13th, finished 2nd )

We started very far back this morning but we caught and overtook loads of cars, so it was a good day for us. We needed to do this, but we also needed to take time back from Peterhansel, on whom I'm clearly focusing my race, and we only clawed back just over 2 minutes.

My car's fast, but so are the Minis, we'll see... Al-Attiyah's also fast, as we saw today with his win and his recovery from yesterday's stage... I'm still racing to win the overall, I've got my work cut out for me, but we're going to do our best in every single stage.

It is all about stage wins now. Hopefully that will bring RG back next year (that's what i am worried about now!! not sure how long RG can foot the bill!!! he has the Stadium Series to worry about now).

RG said he needs 10+ minute lead out of Peru to feel he has a chance. That is a long ways away.

I hope he pulls out the win!! Going to be a long two weeks though....

In the interview that should be on NBCS Robby also mentions having to drop of parts to Johnny Campbell. Turns out it was a fuel pump, hence the small delay for Robby and a huge delay for Johnny.

Hmmmm.... Not sure what to think about that. Other than $$$$. Not sure RG would be caring any other parts than his own if he wants to win. especially since he has no team car

It was just a favour that was ask at the last minute. Kind of a "hey can you huck this thing out on the way by." type of deal. Honda knew what JC's problem was and needed a quick delivery service from someone else entered in the race to comply with the rules. Good karma, and helping out a friend won't hurt in the big picture.

@KAG, I'll bet Robby has no regret's at dropping off the part to Johnny. Johnny deserves that consideration after last years effort.IMO

ok maybe i understand more now. before RG started honda asked for the favor. Totally fine with that and yes good karma. I thought he was carrying spare parts full time. my bad. thanks for clarifying.

Dakar Race report- Johnny Campbell stage 3. Pisco to Nazca.
Special 242km
Liaison 95km
Well things did not go as planned today. Early in the stage the bike developed a hesitation that seemed to be fuel system related. I wasn't sure so I did an examination on the bike and everything seemed to be in order. Pizzolito stopped but he could do nothing for me so I sent him on to follow Helder without me. The race continued without me as I would have to wait for a my extremely fast, bright orange, Support vehicle, piloted by none other than the fastest 4-wheel driver in the desert, Robby Gordon and his Navigator Kellon Walsh. They kindly dropped off a care package that would get me back going. After 20 or so more minutes of repair I was back underway.
But instead of racing with 2- wheel vehicles I found my self smack dab in the middle of the Garbage truck race!!
And man let me tell you, these guys are the gnarliest drivers out there. I couldn't believe what I saw happening right before my eyes. These guys drive trucks, BIG trucks over the softest, steepest dunes that makes me pucker on a bike! The course turned south to a quick beach run, where yes I popped a wheelie for my homies. :) Everything was all good till about 40km from the finish where the bike started acting up again. I nursed it in the rest of the way. I was sure glad to have made it to the bivouac where my HRC crew took quickly to the bike to get it dialed in for the next stage. Stage 4 will be 720km almost 500 miles!! Yikes!
Got go finish my road book!
Adios for now,
Love,
Johnny

That's rad! Thanks for that Will.. JC is a cool dude!

"Garbage truck race!!" careful Johnny

They dont get any cooler or more humble than Johnny!!

I've been calling them garbage trucks for years. Sounds like Johnny isn't the only one out there with the big guys.

"Bad news for Don Hatton @DTH58 reported collision with truck near end of special. Bike and rider hurt, unknown whether continuing. Good luck"

Latest is he's under his own power with no lights/nav tower but a sweep truck following him to bivouac to attempt repairs and get medical clearance for tomorrow!
