Jan 8th, 2013 Dakar Rally Stage 4 Race Info & Discussion

Join in and discuss all the action from Stage 4 of the 2013 Dakar Rally. Robby Gordon finally gets a great starting position and will roll off 2nd after his runner-up finish in stage 3. Gordon will look to grab his first 2013 Stage win, as well as cut into his 46 minute overall deficit. The cars are slated to begin the special section of stage 4 at 7:32am/et and Robby Gordonwill begin his special section at 7:33am/et  Raceday chat will be available throughout the entire 2013 Dakar Rally. COURSE OVERVIEW

It was a painful experience for many competitors when they discovered the area last year. At the beginning of the special stage, the dunes follow one another, each one like the next, strung out in a never-ending desert capable of unsettling the best technical specialists. In the opposite direction, Stéphane Peterhansel and “Nani” Roma, both of whom are masters when it comes to crossing dunes, each lost almost fifteen minutes there, and risked missing out on the first two places of the overall standings. And the level of difficulty will be even more demanding this year! During the crucial stage of the first week, the rally will be even tougher for motorcyclists: they will quail on a 2-km slope, of which the gradient will put the descent of Iquique on a par with a gentle children’s slide.

I hope so. WIth the overall win out of the picture; at least change the goals. Win as many stages as you can; don't give the Minis ANY quarter!

And please come back next year. ^_^

Quitting would hurt the brand that is Robby Gordon, which in turn is the SPEED Energy, Stadium Super Truck, and off -road racing. It would insinuate that he gives up. Leaders don't quit!

Looks like Eric Vigouroux was penalized 1 HR and 2 MIN for some undetermined reason. He is now behind Robby in the overall standings.

Is he too far back to ever win a stage? I really hope they can continue. Its not my money and I have zero inside information. If they have any chance of winning stages then he's gotta get the f'n thing on TV. SPEED ENERGY DUDE. Thats what the car is doing there in the first place. Big deal if you don't win the rally if you can still get it on international television over and over again. Sell the product make the money and kick their butts next time. Quitting on a stage this size is gonna look bad. Dont let'em win! F the trophy. I guess if RG being this far back means no publicity then maybe he should bring it home. We all know this is just killing him inside but maybe some stage victories would be good therapy. American Rebel can survive!

If RG wants to go for winning stages then go for it. Yes, it gets him the TV and media coverage. But it has to make sense/cents$. Obviously his sponsors are international and yes the stage winners get pretty good coverage but in the end is the car good enough to last these last 10 stages. RG has been excellent in the dunes but this time he got bit. If the last stages are just basic Baja type rocks and crap he may well fly. But who am I sitting here in SoCal trying to second guess.
