STAGE 8 TRACKING

STAGE 8: SALTA > SAN MIGUEL DE TUCAMAN

Connection 379km | Special Stage 470km | Total 849km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Tucuman route will be divided into two timed sections with a variety of scenery. With hoodoos, canyons and cacti, the competitors will discover the red and green backdrop of Argentina’s most beautiful natural landscape, which will unfold for more than 150 km creating a Western atmosphere. During the second half of the timed section, which will take place in a region completely unknown to the Dakar, the contrast will be apparent on the sandy and sometimes tricky tracks. It may also be manifested through the weather conditions, if the wind is combined with the high temperatures which ravage the region. The rest day will rarely have been more deserved, in particular for the motorcyclists who will finish their marathon stage..

The Dakar is the toughest rally in the world - period. They route the rally through almost every terrain known to man and including river crossing etc; Weather and conditions will change - no doubt about it! How many of us in the past rallies saw many teams stuck in the desert overnight because of windy conditions? Why is this different, because ASO's main man has gotten adrift? Bullshit - that's what I call it!

To maintain the Dakar's integrity and consistency they need to award those that made it to the finish of Stage 8.

So, what is the final outcome of this mess?

I would hope an official announcement be made later today. Today is a rest day and tomorrow will be the start of the second half...what a political nightmare!

Huge special in Stage 9 - 593kms. Hope it doesn't rain or snow or whatever and the leaders get stuck...or LOL.

I guess at the end of the day we all want to see credit time going back to RG and the Hummer. We had a bummer flip and recovered. Imagine the feel good story that could come of all this....

@BAD: well said

Who will take the Hole Shot?
With CHICHERIT starting 3 minutes ahead of TERRANOVA & 6 minutes ahead of RG, it only make sense the remaining 103 drivers should be starting 9 minutes back, as they all had the same finish... I'd pay to see that start, Funnel down from 103 wide to 25 wide in first 1000 yards and throw in a nice sharp right turn at about 1500 yds. My money is on the stuggly.

They should start at the river.

I didn't think of that! It would look like Crandon!

Well, I think it was Robby himself who called the Dakar "A Show". As a showman himself, he knows the value of making sure that things stay interesting.

None the less, Nasser looked massively stuck, didn't he ? And not particularly wet to my eyes.

Only thing wet was his pants is my guess.
