STAGE 9: SAN MIGUEL DE TUCAMAN > CORDOBA
Connection 259km | Special Stage 593km | Total 852km
COURSE OVERVIEW
Trucks will have pride of place when the rally resumes, only competing in one of the two parts of the special stage, but they will have the rare privilege of setting off first. The stage’s profile with quick tracks will be favourable to specialists of torturous routes. In the other categories, as the distance has been doubled it will also allow for an additional, much more technical section, where, in particular, the drivers will negotiate the bends in the forest. They will have to watch out for trees, given that the rapid assistance trucks won’t have access to the route. The competitors will have to be extremely vigilant over the entire distance, which is, for all except for the bikers, the rally’s longest special stage.

Except unexpected problem, Stéphane Peterhansel is on course to win the 11th Dakar.
The mini driver was able to keep Nasser Al-Attiyah in check. Nasser lost any hope to win on an engine problem.
Step 9 has been won by the Spaniard Nani Roma. He beat Peterhansel by 4'11'' and 6'54'' Orlando Terranova.
Robby Gordon had to settle for the fourth time of the day, with 8'37'' behind Roma.
There is always something happening after the rest day. It seems that the car race has been decided on
Monday between San Miguel de Tucuman and Cordoba.
On this special long about 600 km, major time differences happened.
Now between Peterhansel and his rivals it is like a chasm. In the wake of the Mini Nani Roma, winner of
the day, ten times Dakar winner put the turbo to crush the race. "It was a long special in which we fight a lot with the wheel.
At the end, you get tired and may lack clarity of judgement on trails where there are such a lot of stones.
Had to be careful not to make a mistake, you can get a flat or rip off a wheel at any instant, said the leader of the cars.
So we took a safe pace but fairly constant. On such tracks, one can imagine that Buggies can be in trouble.
We could have won more time, but it would have been too risky. The race is taking form, but there will still be long stages where the buggies are to their advantage. We will win time when possible, because around Fiambala, in the dunes of Copiapo, there is always the risk of making mistakes. It's hard to stay focused for so long, it is more than 5:40 of special!!!"
Al-Attiyah lost all hope, De Villiers is coming back.
Saturday rescued from drowning by the neutralization of the 8th stage, Nasser Al-Attiyah was a miracle but miracles do not happen twice in three days. The Qatari, who would hit a tree on the course, played yo-yo all day. Arrested several times on the course, he had not yet crossed the line at 19:30
local time (23h30 French time). The buggy Qatar Red Bull may be living his last hours.
The general classification has undergone a revolution. Chicherit accompanied Nasser Al-Attiyah in the depths of the rankings. Victim of a problem of still unknown origin, the driver of the SMG buggy dived.
Overall, the runner-up spot falls on the hood of Giniel de Villiers. South Africa, which points to 49'31 "Peter had yet to hand in this step. Leading for more than half of the stage, De Villiers has lost a lot of time on the end of the course, which benefited Roma.
Sven Quandt can now rest easy as a second X-Raid Mini takes the podium.'s Mini of Russian Leonid Novitskiy
is third in 56'03 ".
Rescued from drowning. HA HA HA.
Quote from Nani Roma -
"It was a nice special, but I'm a bit cheesed off that I had to stay two hours stuck behind Robby. I warned him three times by Sentinel but he didn't give me enough space to overtake him. At any rate, it's a pity we couldn't gain some more time. I felt fine, we could have done a bit better. But we're happy. The end of the race will be very tough. We're quite far from victory, but you never know."
without cheese maybe? Doesnt sound like "stuck" to me when you only have 3 opportunities in 2 hours of driving to ge tto RGs bumper to sound the passing signal
It was more like 2 hours of traing on how to slide thru corners like a pro..
Nice try, Nani. He finished 23 seconds behind RG, so if he had let him pass, RG would have been held up.
sounds like he has the whine to go with it!
whaa? so is he sayin that Robby is driving too slow?? lolz.
i just know, that till now, RG is 19th OA.
Anybody know if Nasser finished at all ? I can't find that information anywhere yet.
Could it be possible that he's out for good ? Personally, I'd hate to see that.
