STAGE 13 TRACKING
STAGE 13: COPIAPO > LA SERENA
Connection 294km | Special Stage 441km | Total 735km
COURSE OVERVIEW
The schedule has taken the meteorological characteristics of the area into account. The “Camanchaca” will be very dense during the first part of the morning. So it will only be once this stubborn fog has lifted that the first motorcyclists will set off to tackle the last dunes of the rally. The sandy part, where an attack is still feasible, represents a third of the special stage. To discover the end of the stage, the competitors will have to head south, on wide tracks which can nevertheless conceal stones which can shatter dreams. When they reach La Serena where the rally’s last bivouac will be situated, they will be awarded highly prized additional points.

Hey TOG, your intro for the this discussion states that Robby is 19th overall and will have a great starting spot for stage 12. If I am not mistaken it should be 16th overall and a great start for stage 13. Thanks for this great site! I am around the same age as Robby and became a fan way back when he started driving his Dad's Gordon Feed Class 1 car in the desert.
cut and paste fail from me from stage 12 thread. Thanks for the heads up!
Good Morning. Bikes have started. Kurt Caselli starts 18th and Johnny Campbell starts 48th.
Thru WP 1 Caselli is 3rd 9 Sec down and Campbell is 48th 5 Min 38 Sec down
Thru WP 2 Caselli is tied for 2nd with Despres and Faria 15 seconds down. Johnny started later so he will not be thru WP 2 for a while.
Keep it up Kurt to win your third stage of the rally and show them that you're for real (which you already have). I think they screwed you for penalizing you 3 hours and 20 minutes for missing one crummy way point. I could see a penalty of 30 minutes or even a full hour, but 3 hours 20 minutes is a little excessive...
It was 20 minutes for the missed WP. The 3 hours came from turning off the GPS.
Oh snap my bad. 20 minutes is reasonable. Any stated rational behind shutting off the GPS that you know of or was it just a rookie mistake?
