Roger already said that he is 100% comitted to Sam for 2009 in the Cup series. They talked to Roger for 10 minutes on nascar raceday yesterday. Also Sams spotter has confirmed all is set for 2009.

Honestly Sam hasn't done that bad for a guy in his rookie year with very limited stock car experience on a first year team. The best thing Roger could do is stick with him for at the very least 1 more year. Look at how long it took the dinger to catch on, now at the end of year 2 it looks like he has a big upside as opposed to the end of year 1.
Penske knew this season was just a throw-away season. He knew that Sam needed to go get some experience and the second season hopefully the team chemistry would be good enough to compete at the level he should be able to.
I believe this rumor has started because the captain may have no choice but to put someone else in Helio's car if he goes to jail, which is very possible right now. It doesn't look good for him right now, if convicted he is at the least going serve some time even if it is a short stay ...... Sam may be the one that keeps the IRL Team on top
I think it's pretty much set that Helio will be ok for 2009 but after that it's doubtful. I say Roger gives it one more year and then if progress isn't made, Sam is back to the IRL an Helio is in jail.
Once the new package arrives in IndyCar, and with all of the road/street courses added to the schedule, its not like he would be much of a threat in IndyCar at that point.
Hornish wants to be in Cup. Penske is smitten with him. He'll be in Cup.
"UPDATE: at Phoenix International Raceway Friday morning, #77-Sam Hoprnish Jr. denied he was leaving NASCAR and heading back to the IRL for the 2009 season and plans to be back in Sprint Cup in 2009 try to win races in the #77 car.(PRN's Garage Pass Radio Show)(11-7-2008)"
