Let them bitch . That's why Robby got USAC to sanction it just so there wouldn't be any favoritism .
They have mentioned last week as well as shown some highlights a few times. This broadcast seems a bit more polished than last weeks. Would have preferred a "last week" segment.....if we are infact not going to see it.

Still leaves a few questions, RG was allowed to run 4 or 5 laps with no window net? Yet Loftons hood was going to pose a issue where he had to pit?

We got told that any truck stuck on the sand would remain stuck. Seems like a terrible idea....then you find it is because Jeff Ward gets pinned on the point, sits for 5 laps messing up the apex of the turn and getting deystroyed with dirt. So did this finally bring out a yellow because we come back from a commercial and they are pushing his truck off.

Cenni drives into a few guards trying to keep from going a lap down.....they get reset. They get hit again....never reset. That really changed the arch of the top turn and made the jump section pointless.

On the last turn a buggy is viable off camera seemly very close to where Arie flipped....why isn't that moved?
Easy answer THIS AINT NASCRAP . No need to throw a yellow every 5 laps to get the result they want . USAC has been around as long if not longer than NASCAR . Even sanctioning the Indy 500 for awhile , they know what they're doing . If there had been penalties to give they would have .
Yea, ok...I'm not asking for NASCAR comparisons or a USAC history. It's not about throwing a yellow flag to "get the result they want".

My point is this is a new series pushing into a major market. Not an easy task, so originally I was a bit offset that we weren't seeing all races in order.

Then watching the race, we got told some things that absolutely contradict each other with zero logical explanation provided.

So yes, it seems very unfair, inconsistent and shows confusion among race officials if nothing else.

Jeff Ward got stuck, he and each driver were informed if you get stuck you stay stuck. He was then removed and allowed to keep racing.....after he brought out a yellow it would seem. WE WERE NOT TOLD ANYTHING DIFFERENTLY. He should have either stayed stuck, removed and parked or been removed right away. It's not fair to any truck he could have passed he kept racing after being removed. Its not fair to him he sat there 5 laps, then moved. It's not fair to any driver that couldn't pass or attempt a pass because his truck made it a single lane for a quarter of the race.

Secondly, I don't know any series that uses window nets and don't have a major issue when they fall, and want it addressed immediately. I don't see how Loftons hood is an issue, but a window net isn't. After seeing Arie roll....as a RG fan it's inexcusable he was racing without one.

Last, anything set on the course to promote racing "lines" needs to be in place for each race, each heat, each lap. The removal of those barriers IMHO had everything to do with the jumps never being used again by lead trucks...even when Rob Mac was trying to catch RG.

Maybe you can get Roger Ebert's old job.

@Team,
Jeff Ward was removed/helped at the mid way caution.Perfect time to remove/help him.I'm guessing you where not at the drivers meeting ( I wasn't at that one, either) The broadcaster may not have been there.
They may have cover'd that subject at that time, same as the hood coming off subject.

Window net falling . With no windsheilds whats the difference? That doesn't mean that won't be address'd before San Diego. It's really up to the USAC Race Director. I would not have black flag'd him to fix that either.

Try being a race director some time.Let me know if it goes exactly as planned.

Yeah much better then throwing a yellow at the #35s no spin yesterday in Richmond. In PHX PJs rollovers (plus a couple other drivers) really killed the flow of the race. In PHX they left Nick B high centered on hill too so nothing new. Keep in mind they don't throw yellows they red flag the track. The lap then doesn't count and the run the lap again.

I think its all part of the challenge. Need to be super careful and drive a very demanding track. I for one like it.

As for the Buggy still on course it is possible they just didn't have the correct tool to lift it off the barrier. That would be a tough scenario to anticipate.

@ TeamMMR2

Just shut your trap! How about that! Since when does anybody have to notify you of anything that doesn't concern you? This is only the 3rd event in a brand new series. I would think that since it is a new series you wouldn't be so quick to judge. I think that your criticism isn't but rather complaining. For being a registered member on a Robby Gordon forum you sure don't act like a Robby Gordon Fan.

I love some of you guys...same reason the uprising failed. I'd love to post some pictures so maybe you can "shut your trap" about how I'm not a Robby Gordon Fan.

One person brings up some questions and all of a sudden, I'm not a fan of RG any my criticism is blind complaing. Seriously, if don't think those are justifiable question's then Im not sure what to tell you. Maybe your too much of a fan to be objective.

I just noticed some things about the race that I really felt needed to be addressed, period.

I wasn't aware the comp yellow was when Ward was removed, but I still question letting him still compete. Even listening to the broadcast again, if your stuck ... your done. I just think it could have been handled better. Even it if was just a broadcast error.

Now, Mike....thank you for respond like an adult. I still think its a bit different, because these are designed without windshields. My concern is how much contact does the drivers helmet have with the net in some of the videos it looks like the helmet containment is different for each driver. RG seems to have the most side support, Rob Mac looks like he barley has any. It comes down to saftey...especially on something prone to rolling...I think they said PJ has went over 9 times.

I think we all learned week 1 that the track layout can be improved and modified, IE Loftons and the container and the 3 point Monster Truck turning deal. Just don't think that's an "on the fly" call. Clearly it was tight up in the area with the columns but I don't see why pulling all those barriers was a good call halfway thru the main. As I said originally, I think having that entrance wide open made it the preferred path and thus negated the "option".

@Team,
driver's use different head & neck restraints, that being said, you can also adjust the helmet retainer strap for personal preference.Ever driver is different.Window nets are important,IMO.But more important than the head restraint?
If the issue wasn't covered in the rule book or drivers meeting, one has to consider the situation before throwing the black flag.IMO.

Track layout? It 's the stadium's house, their rules. Work with what you got. The pavement held up. I was worried about the end field 180 breaking up, not so much.
Personally I won't care what the mix of surfaces is/are. If it's consistant for all the racer's ,all's good,IMO

I would like to note that Robby was unhappy with how late the event went at Phoenix.Basically becouse of overturned Trucks (PJ) I know for fact that last night's SST event finished before the
Street Stock event (that I tech) started last night ;-)

On to San Deigo

@Team, I bet SST, USAC and RG will look at this event and make more adjustments especially safety ones. Perhaps window nets are optional or not a black flag able event? I don't know. As far as stuck and done S___ happens. cant throw a flag for driver error and reward them either. Remember Ward did not carry enough speed over the hump and got stuck. I would call that driver error. If they threw a red flag that lap would not have counted and Ward would have had an unfair advantage to compensate for his mistake. Were you at the event last night? I only ask because it made more sense to me watching it live in PHX on why they did or did not throw the flag.

No I was not, which is why the broadcast did such a poor job in retrospect.

The broadcast really made it seem like your "punishment" for making the mistake Ward did was staying stuck. In fact, having listen again....they make the point he is getting pelleted with dirt and would so for the next 15 laps. That's the last that's said, the intermission really isn't referenced as the time he is removed. All of a sudden he's racing again.

As far as the net goes, they mention its down. Mention he is trying to get it fixed.....show an "in truck shot" with the net up as he goes down the hill, then in the sand pit it's back down.

With 3 to go, Loftons hood is flapping...they mention a possible black flag. The hood comes off, gets ran over.

So again, from the broadcast perspective only....it seems very poorly handled.
