Sponsorship: It looks like the usual suspects will be on Robby's hood again: Jim Beam, Menard's and a few partial deals Monster, possibly Polaris (?), Microsoft(?) and some other 1 race deals. But with the testing ban this should help Robby's team with cost.

Owner Points: This weekend Robby has a chance to race his way and stay inside the Top 35, but with Ganassi & DEI, Inc making a deal and cutting 2 cars from their mixed stable, and Bill Davis Racing getting out of Cup and running 4 Trucks next year. It appears Robby, the #84 (soon to be #82) and the #47 will liley all 3 have a reserved spot in the first 5 races of 2009

Bud Shootout: Well, the Ganassi deal will pull the #42 and #41 out of the Dodge lineup when the switch to Chevy, which should place Robby into the final Shootout spot. The #41 was on the oustide looking in, but the #42 would be giving up his spot. It won't effect the Chevy lineup since RCR and Hendrick together have those 6 spots filled. The new Dodge line up would be: #9, #12, #2, #43, #19 and #7 (Unless someone higher in points makes a move to Dodge).

this is all good news sounds positive for a nice change.
Microsoft? Looks like? Is there any sources for these claims? I'll ask once again, when you post "news", post the source or indicate that its your own thoughts or feelings. Too many people will read into what your saying and assume its 100% truth on this site unless you clarify its just your gut feelings or opinions.

I do agree though, with the pending Ganassi DEI merge the teams have 6 cars in the top 35 and only three sponsors. At least one team thats in the top 35 will cease to exist come next year.

Well with the merger, you have 6 locked in teams (41, 42, 01, 1, 8, 15) going down to 4, possibly 3 (if Gnassi cannot find $$ for the 41). The 15 is gone and the 01 is gone too...BUT DEI still owns those locked in owners poitns.

You can be sure as heck that the #33 of Clint Bowyer is purchasing one of those extra set of points in the offseason to lock himself in.

I don't think Chevy would allow one of their teams to sell Owner Points to a Toyota team, so that should should stop MWR, TRB, or JTG from sucking up and paying for a spot.

Still looks like there will be a "bump" up effect, but dont you, at least for Daytona, run your locked in car for the 6 figure payout?

A one off sponsor deal for the biggest race of the year you are locked in for should not be hard to come by..even in these harsh times
Only if it does not violate the "4 cars per team owner" rule. And that is contingent on NASCAR allowing RCR to "merge/buy into/whatever" the #01, #15 or #41 so the #33 can get the owner points from one of those teams. When Michael Waltrip "bought" the owner points for the #77 from Penske, there was a certain way it had to be done.
Sponsors: Matt, I put a question mark after Polaris and Microsoft, what more do you want! Heck, only Menard's has been confirmed, but word is Jim Beam will be back, Monster will play a bigger role (2 races is bigger than last year's 1, but who knows how many?) Polaris & Microsoft Small Business have been rumored...throw in State Water Heaters, Hunt's Pizza and Air Force. They're all looking for teams too.

Nascar nixed the buy points deal after Waltrip did it with the #77. When Ginn Racing merged with DEI, Inc and shut down their other teams, Nascar would not let them sell to anyone. Everyone below moved up.

I know many have stated RCR will buy points from DEI, Inc but unless Childress allows Teresa an ownership role of the #33, I doubt Nascar will let DEI, Inc transfer the points. Just like I doubt Yates can buy Paul's points with the #15.

There's still some "wild cards" left on the table...State Water Heaters, Air Force, Hunt's Pizzas are sponsors that want to stay in the Cup series. If one of these sponsors land on the #01 team (likely #41) then DEI/Ganassi would be at 4 teams, but that still would leave the #41 and #15 teams...those teams are likely to close. Paul will have a good chance at getting the #15 if he desired since DEI won't use it anyway next season. Look for DEI/Ganassi to run the #1, #8, #41 and #42.
In Jayski's podcast today they had a clip of Robby in which he stated that Jim Beam and Menard/Mapei will be on the car for next year and that he was all set for next year.
Jim Beam is 100% back for 2009. Sleep well everybody !
I was just commenting you might want to mention that your claims are yours personally, because your posts tend to be written like actual news is being reported. Take it as a compliment, Im just trying to make suggestions to limit confusion on the site.
