Two of motorsports’ biggest names – Earnhardt and Ganassi – will launch a four-car team beginning in 2009 through the combination of the motorsports operations of Dale Earnhardt, Inc. (DEI) and Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, Inc. (CGRFS). NASCAR stars Martin Truex Jr. and Juan Pablo Montoya will drive the #1 and #42 respectively and future star Aric Almirola will be behind the wheel of the #8. The driver of the #41 will be named in the near future. “In this ultra-competitive era of NASCAR, it is necessary to build and sustain the strongest team possible and our combining with the people and equipment at Dale Earnhardt Inc. will help create a strong four-car program for years to come,” said Chip Ganassi. “This is a win-win for both organizations as well as all of our partners.”
“Having a partner like Chip who is heavily involved on the competition side of the business is an ideal situation for DEI,” Teresa Earnhardt said. “He has a long history of managing championship teams in the IndyCar and Rolex Grand-Am Series and I share his passion and goals of winning races and ultimately championships in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. I think this is a case where we are stronger together than we are apart.” Details of the new four-car operation will be announced at a future date.

Here's more details from USA Today, including official info:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor/nascar/2008-11-12-dei-ganassi-...

New Name: Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates
Manufacturer: Chevy w/ engine alliance with RCR
Team Numbers: #1, #8, #41 & #42
Drivers: Martin Truex (#1), Aric Almirola (#8), Juan Pablo Montoya (#42) TBA (#41)
This merger will move Robby into the Bud Shootout lineup, as long as Robby stays with Dodge
huh? wonder what will happen with the 01 and 15 points. nascrap will probably let one be sold to RCR and freeze the other
I sent an e-mail to Larry Mac asking him what exactly the rule is in this case. If he replies I'll post it.
With new sponsor money being slim to none, I wouldn't be surprised if the 8 is wrapped in Target colors come Daytona.
Except Robby doesnt want Nascar based folks anymore.
neither of those teams have done anything this year either, I would want them simply because of that. Neither of them have a good grip around the COT.
Regan Smith won a race. I don't care what anyone says, he crossed the line before Tony Stewart and that speaks volumes about DEI as an organization.
No doubt some quality people will be available after this season....
When DEI and Ginn merged there were 5 teams in the top 35 and a 4 team cap. The 1 & 8 where in and the 15 was out. Ginns 3 teams 01, 13 & 14 were all in. The 01 (Martin)continued and the 15 got the 13 (nemecheck's points). I think Sterling Marlins points could not be sold and the 36th place team moved up. That was the scenario then.
Say goodbye to Truex after this year. He'll take Bass Pro Shop with him to Stewart-Haas, mark my words...
This will never last. Teresa is to much of a ( you choose a word ). Ganassi will buy her out in 2 years and she will be out of racing. She does not like it anyway.
