STAGE 1 TRACKING
STAGE 1: ROSARIO > SAN LUIS
Connection 629km | Special Stage 180km | Total 809km
COURSE OVERVIEW
The competitors will wake up early to set off along the road in the region of Cordoba and start the race on some narrow tracks which will require the utmost vigilance. Each one will still be very fresh allowing them to tackle the stony sections or the blind jumps serenely. The competitors’ driving skills will be rewarded at the finish, where they will have already clocked up 800 kilometres. Although the gaps will not be significant at this stage of the race, it is nevertheless important to maintain their position in the part of the standings that they are aiming for!
The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Someone needs to setup a fake Robby Twitter account that post "live" quotes from him during the race. I can imagine what it would be saying today.
From Dakar page
It's worrying!"
"I don't know what happened. Everything went smoothly when we took things easy on the link section, but from the moment we started the special, we had vapour lock problems and we had to stop. Then, all the other fluids started to overheat, so we had to stop at least five or six times... At the end, we had stopped for the umpteenth time when competitor no. 390 offered to tow us to the end of the special. Honestly, it's strange, I don't know why this happened. We'll have a look at it in the bivouac, although it's disappointing to lose two or three hours on the very first day of racing... It's worrying!"
The piece is one piece..could be worse. kick some ass tomorrow dude

Sorry Rob but its called finishing a race car 10 days before the start of the most gruelling race in the world! The rest of the rally has to be a massive test session from here on ready for next year. What should have happened is they should have planned to have Baja Bob run it in the Baja 1000 as a test. Get all these things sorted before stage 1 of Dakar.
@Tim, how did the car you built finish today?
+1
My company provides systems to race teams that aid in the preparation and maintenance of race cars. Any race car I've been lucky enough to been a part of has done very well, thanks for asking.
That would have meant sitting out this Dakar because what you would have done would have been impossible. I'm glad he got it done and made the trip. When's the last time his dad raced a car outside of the NORRA rally?
Look I'm not saying he shouldn't have done the trip but he sold the Hummers quite a while ago and knew he had to build a new race car. The key to this rally or any race for that matter is testing, testing and more testing.
Robs Dad has driven Baja in relief stints for Robby in years gone by and knows Baja backwards. I'm sure he would have done it in a heartbeat.
