Jan 5th, 2014 Dakar Rally Stage 1 Race Info & Discussion

Join in and discuss all the action from Stage 1 of the 2014 Dakar Rally. Robby Gordon will drive the #305 Speed Energy/Traxxas/Toyo Tires HST.  The special section of Stage 1 is 180km long. The parade leading up to the start of stage 1 will be televised and we will have coverage here.  Raceday chat will be available throughout the entire 2014 Dakar Rally. COURSE OVERVIEW

The competitors will wake up early to set off along the road in the region of Cordoba and start the race on some narrow tracks which will require the utmost vigilance. Each one will still be very fresh allowing them to tackle the stony sections or the blind jumps serenely. The competitors’ driving skills will be rewarded at the finish, where they will have already clocked up 800 kilometres. Although the gaps will not be significant at this stage of the race, it is nevertheless important to maintain their position in the part of the standings that they are aiming for!

 


 The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Rather than just sit back and name call about the so called "experts" why not explain to me logically and defend your opinion.

Just because you don't like somebody's opinion about something doesn't mean you go on a childish rant. Tell me, educate me how I'm wrong about the direction thing have went and seem to be going.

Give me some rationale behind your optimism.

I'm far from an expert, but I have a fair amount of racing experience. I'll gladly compare my resume to yours, if you like.

because bitching and complaining,couch chiefing from North America will solve nothing. It just makes you sound like a know it all.Glass mostly empty type of person.

I'm beginning to remember why I'm happy 'Robby' (not Rob) said screw stock cars.

Don't stress MMr. There are a lot of pissed of people on the site due to how the day unfolded and your post are a perfect place for them to off load their frustration.

I won't try to guess what went wrong as I am not an expert, but I can read results and based on that, this was an epic fail.

Tomorrow is another day, RG delivers some of the most entertaining racing when things are working. I am hoping for great show tomorrow.

I have 26 years of wrenching at factory dealerships, several years on an a class 1/2 1600, couple of years on craftsman truck team and several years on various sportsman divisions. I am an expert in my field but not having any insight as to what goes on at RGM with any of his racing development I think it is pointless to say anything about what he should have done or didn't do.

Right on the money

I am as disappointed as all on here. MMR---I think you need to step back and look at 2013. RG started a series from the ground up---SST. Do you have an idea, even a small clue, of what it takes to start an entire series from the ground up. We are not talking about putting a team together to run in an existing series but starting, from the freakin ground up, a new race series. This involved so many aspects---marketing, negotiations with a wide array of vendors, sponsors, etc. Oh yea---building all vehicles, repairing all vehicles. If that were not enough---running the TT in a handful of races.
The Dakar is big and the competition and budgets---(especially factory sponsored teams) are intense. If you follow RG you understand that this is a last minute audible---he was supposed to drive one of the H3's for Yasheed and it fell through late. The Gordini was a quick built---amazing he got it completed with all that was going on. He tested it---(1500 KM) with what little time this guy has and something happened. We don't know if it is related to the design, components, etc.
What I am trying to say in this post is simple---we were not part of the process and are non in the bivouac to properly assess what happened. With all of your knowledge it's ashame that it is not down in Argentina right now to assist RG or one of the other 146 teams---you could have been a real difference maker

I am glad that we are following a race in January that Robby is in. Gas on RG!

At this point what happened, has happened. We need to accept that an overall victory is just not going to happen this year, and likely wasn't going to happen considering the circumstances that Robby and his team faced. Now, I'm not being negative at all. Robby should and needs to go for some stage wins from here on out. That vehicle needs some proper testing, and as I don't see him trying the various other rally raids out there for 2014 (Silk Way, Australasian Safari, Abu Dhabi, Morocco, etc.) he need competition miles now.
