I occasionally read Autoextremist.com primarily because the writer Peter Delorenzo and I share the same disdain for Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne. In this week's issue he went on about Global Rally Cross at the X-Games and how it was a great show and the "next big thing" (see 'Fumes' section). He must of been watching a different X-Games than the rest of us because GRC was a shit show and no amount of Fabreze will remove the stink it left.

I was about to fire off an email but a fellow reader beat me to it (see Reader Mail) albeit the reader was far more behaved than I would have been. To my surprise, Mr. Delorenzo came to his senses in his reply to the reader and offered some very interesting thoughts regarding SST and the series' future.

Way to go Bruce !!!. WJM Thanks for posting.

Well WJM I did try and behave in my letter to Mr. Delorenzo as I wanted it to get printed. I read his blog most weeks and feel the same disdain for the new Fiat / Chrysler that you and him do. I am sure Delorenzo smells the big bucks that are being poured into GRC and feels being a big supporter of it is a smart move. We all know what the best races were on last Sunday and so does the rest of America.
I don't know what F1 race he was watching. That was a great race.

I'm not sure how GRC is the next "BIG" thing, to me it seems like it is becoming more boring than growing. A 6 car field with a small jump and the joker was taking a slightly longer corner. I remember when X-Games 1st had rally cars and the racing was tighter, more door banging and the joker was a completely different line with a big cross over jump. High flying trucks banging door to door to door is much exciting than a small group of cars that can slide sideways. Oh wait the trucks can do that too!

Don't know much about the Rally Cross cars of modern day. You could say history repeats itself though, and in a way ....in a big way these rally cars are nothing more than a modern day example of what went on decades ago. The x Games version of these cars were a bore. Any comments about what they are otherwise would be a tad off topic. Not entirely however....but just a tad. Global Rally not be confused with "World Rally cars" that have raced since the invention of autos are their own animal............anyway autoextremist and its writer pounced on a topic that would seem hot at the moment...thus "What the readers want to read". A never failing go to method of journalism.....(Is the internet journalism....no). The cars themselves are nothing new. In the microcosim that is the planet Earth it is very hard to find anything that is new....well maybe the aerial ballerina water jet things are new.....But if you want to generalize I'd say the SST quailifies as new. And with the help of some long long over due front and center attention and recognition Robby Gordon will be a major player in the motorsports up and comings. Strike while the iron is hot I say but I don't know where they can pop up soon to keep the momentum since we all know the public has a short memory. And along with a surge of popularity and fanbase perhaps a long over due helping hand in the world of Dakar may materialize. Never saw Autoextremist before.....WJM/Bruce Smith
