James Garner has passed away and in reading a few things about the man it turns out he drove in the Baja 1000 a few times. This I never knew, or, if I heard so perhaps working with molten lead and car paint filed the memory under "L" ....... for lost. If Baja Bob Gordon and Mr. Garner ran into one another or rubbed elbows is anyones guess I'm not going to take the time to cross face the dates, times and numbers so to speak at his time. Looks like there is another good biography to read now as I only read them if the person has passed on. Garners' came out in 2011. Note: I have a pile of car/racing magazines from the 60s'-70s and in them lurks "stuff"...one thing is a movie advertisement for "GRAND PRIX" I often thought about doing a one of a kind T-shirt of that ad...

My Father was a huge James Garner fan. It's funny because My father and Mr. Garner could have been brother's. Dad thought Mr. Garner was a better driver than actor. Mr.Garner ran in some of the same racing circles as my Father and was a very well rounded racer. Many people didn't even know that on the "Rockford files" Garner did his own stunts. Mr. Garner will be missed.
I had the pleasure of working for Mr Garner during his off-road racing days. He was a very good guy. He rarely came to the shop, but when he did he would take the time to talk to all 15 of us. RIP Jim
there is a great pic of him at either the start or finish of a race sitting in his car... open face helmet... smoking a cigarette.... really a cool pic. ill see if i can find it
