Once again the field at Randys just down the road from the track provided an economical destination for those who enjoy sitting up till 4-5 am with no interference or rules and like to drag- ass on race day.....or....a peaceful family atomosphere complete with corn hole and all other wholesome on goings. Either way it's a great place to spend your "away time". Fridays' K&N race was a great race to watch and I'm telling you, it was more entertaining than Saturdays Nationwide race. The last few laps provided a great restart that saw a "NICE" dive bomb by the 3rd place car and race winner Scott Heckert into turn one that handcuffed the leader Andrew Ranger into the center of a 3 wide turn one head turner......every race fan craves. Scuffed of his exit speed Ranger had little hope or time to catch Hecket. I've seen the Rolex sports cars at the Glen and while it is a higher profile series the entertainment value by this race and these cars was far superior. As the lead cars repeatedly found trouble in mechanical breakdown the front of the field was putting on a good show with nice tight racing. Ranger was walking away with it at the end with a steady lead, and the final restart proved to be one hell of a night cap of sorts to start of the competitive side of the weekend. As far as the Nationwide series went no cars were in the same league as Ambrose. I'm sure the cup drivers that were entered could have hung with him on level ground but it seemed from being there first hand the car seemed to "have that thang". As per the cup race It was nice to see a guy not take it laying down when it came to banging doors with Ambrose. Given the intensity of the wrecks you could say it was an exciting race and Ambrose was "coming hard" at the end but truthfully the field shuffling provided by pit stop sequencing is what gave this race it's worth. Without it Ambrose would have had the sweep. I'm growing ever fonder of true "ringers" showing up provided they have good cars just to surpress the runaway races ...I know it never happens in cup like in the Nationwide but ...I don't know. Congrats to the Dinger. The rest of the weekend will go undescribed other than to say if you have not done a race weekend live it would be of no use to hear about it ...you have to be there to feel it. Even if one night of the spectacular fire of pallets and couches and payloader tires would be easy to envision...it would be hard to know what it smells like, feels like and looks like with a parade of candle kites flowing off and overhead, all the while, Tchaikovski splits the crystal clear night air. Having missed race weekends those missed races remain a stark reminder of how alive one can feel away from the daily grind when you are not missing one. It's wierd you know ....but even the biggest asshole at the track can sorta get way with it ...not me ...it was someone else. Pocono infield however ......eeeessshhh. Yea Talladega infield before i'm too old to keep up with my memories. Not one person from here went to the Glen ?????

It was great to see the Dinger give it to Ambrose, I liked the finish.
Nice writeup Michael. Sounds like the party alone was worth the trip. But no, schedule and available funds didn't allow it. I've never been to WGI, so someday hopefully.
We go every year... Turn 1, Seneca grandstands... Quite a hit that Cole Whitt took...
Seneca. Row 29 end seats section 4 and a sunburned face from that giant walkway mirror at our feet...You know I missed that crash because I followed the cars up out of the hole through the Esses......ooooohhhh.....heard that part though.
Right in front of you... LOL Section 4 row 28... seats 1 and 2
I must be stupid.....I saw you guys.... we sat a few rows down from our seats for the nationwide because some folks were in our seats, you guys were right next to us across the isle...I saw the Black Speed hoodie on friday .......the stupid part comes in because now I see your profile pic......."you did not hear a red faced long haired cane toatin' ticked off semi fat guy with a camo backpack and sun glasses drop an "F Bomb" when he found his seats were being used by a pair of "I'm going to the gym....BEFORE WORK types.."? well....hello. I had Robby gear on everyday........................ shame shame
Damn we was close, Argetsinger 3 Row 18 Seat 16.I was the guy in the SST hat, my son started the day wearing a Hummer Hoodie with the "Classic" S
May post some pics in a fewReading on site race reports is always a favorite part of the Planet Robby experience for me Thanks Michael and David!
Michael did all the reporting, I just took about 1400 pictures, so many that sometimes some come out. If there would have been any real reporting on my part I would have made my son do it since that's his job in Elmira right now.
It gave me a place to stay, and a chance to go to The Glen for the first time in a long time.
Last time I was there, I camped in a tent in what is now the inner loop. (88)
