I know it is early for this, but that is the sort of guy I am. I know RG will win stages here on out, but his goal is to win the Dakar not stages.
What do you guys think about RG keeping the Gordini in SA for more testing after the race? Heck maybe until next years Dakar? Maybe move some of RGM down there?
I am no race guru or geography buff, but I am rather sure nowhere in the US will give you 6,000 ft of elevation and 130+ temps at the same time. Why not keep the Gordini down there for some more testing in high altitude and beat the thing ever which way?
Think about it -
- The people love him. He probably has more fans down there then up here. This could lead to
-- additional sponsorship
--appearance fees
-- media coverage
-- a better Gordini and better chance to win the race
Heck partner with a local media company down there and do a reality show to find someone to drive Gordini #2 or #3. Would be similar to Nissan Driving Academy. NDA drivers have done very well their first year, and really RG just needs a water carrier anyway and the sponsorship that would come with the show.
You could also have a SST race in one of their big soccer stadiums and I bet you would fill the place.
I love RG, but really think if he wants to win before he gets too old and make $ at the same time he needs to move to capitalize on where the money is for him and that is in SA.
In the meantime I'll continue to cheer him on and watch this rebel cause trouble.

who is going to work on it? who is going to fix it if it break -break's? what races are held in S/A to race besides DAKAR?
Seems he would need to move some of his team down there and hire some more. All things that seem possible if he has the right amount of $$$ that could come from this.
As for racing, It only does one other race up here anyway so I don't think that is a big benefit. He could make up his own fake races of one to test the system using this years Dakar routes.
You give me another idea however. Why not start up some sort of off road series down there to test it. A few 500km+ races where you bring what you got and if you beat the Gordini you win $. Another big media opportunity.
All I know is he seems to be huge down there, and that means the options are unlimited as $$ solve a lot of problems.
It would make no sense to leave it/ test it in South America. The engineer, fab group, engine people, etc., etc. are in North America. This failure is not a result of anything having to do with South America, or even climate. A brake fire is likely due to a stuck caliper that can occur even in the sub-arctic. Something other than ambient temperature caused this (debris, physical damage etc.) The South American conditions can easily be replicated in North America. Want it hotter---tape over some of the air intake. Want more altitude---go to Colorado. The best way to maximize value of the money invested is to do the work in a place where the work can best be done---your own shop.
Good points Mark. Still like the idea of him testing the waters down south.
Kevin - Spamming their pages won't do any good. It would cause problems. Please don't include this site or encourage the members here to do so.
Kool. Thanks for deleting it. I don't want to cause problems and know international biz with odd political involvement can be ugly.
I do know that RG wants to run an SST race in Argentina, and he knows it would be very popular. But I believe there are many, many challenges and obstacles to make that happen.
TOG I am preparing to have a zero post modified by TOG day tomorrow.
Thanks for all the work you and the RGM team does!
