STAGE 7: IQUIQUE > UYUNI

Connection 396km | Special Stage 321km | Total 717km

COURSE OVERVIEW

Numerous difficulties will mark the first part of the Bolivian marathon stage. The cars will tackle it first, followed by the motorcycles the next day. Right from the outset, the long liaison section will mean an early start, followed by a gradual climb to a height of more than 3,500m. Once on the high plateaux, the special stage will begin, with instructions to follow the roadbook with great care, in light of the large number of junctions on the route. One of the challenges of the day could be wear and tear on tyres. Once they have arrived in Uyuni, the competitors will only have completed half of the marathon stage.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Speaking of "politics"…

6 Toyotas and 7 Minis in the top 15 today.

Say what you will, but it sure seems they have their sh*t worked out. Being able to run with them continues to be impressive.

Yeah it is quite amazing what you can do with a $100,000,000.00 budget.

One could build a ... a Peugeot 2008 DKR ?

Are all of the Minis and Toyotas factory backed?

Not sure but my guess is maybe to some extent.

No where to the point of the top tier cars 4 mini's and a few toy's

X-Raid and Overdrive (Mini and Toyota respectively) are private, though quite large, independent racing shops. There is some factory support, but not to the extent of a classic "factory team". Mostly they are supported by several sponsors as well as individuals who ante up enormous sums to "rent-a-racer".

X-Raid is contracted to BMW/Mini and receives support.BTW ,their contact ends after a 2016 event.
Overdrive receives support from the South African Toyota distributor. Both to the best of my knowledge.

Let's put that in perpective,American Honda Motor Co. is the distributor of Honda product into the United States. They operate HPD (+other racing things) HPD builds racing automotive things including the Indy Car V-6's. So, does being supported by a distributor mean you are a step above building it in your garage? HARDLY

Well said bob!!!

From Bolivia TV at the end of stage 7

Looks a little weathered.
