STAGE 8 TRACKING

STAGE 8: UYUNI > IQUIQUE

Connection 24km | Special Stage 781km | Total 805km

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Dakar bows to the laws of nature. Hence, the weather will decide which route will be taken to leave Bolivia. If it’s dry, the start could take place in the Salar de Uyuni, for a 100km route across a smooth road of white salt: full throttle and foot to the floor! The route then slows down abruptly, with the longest part of the special stage taking place on more technical mountain terrain. The day will end with more than 40km of dunes, concluding with the vertiginous descent to Iquique.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Robby had low oil pressure early on in the stage and simply played it safe today. Engine should be ok though. They are checking oil screens, filters, lines etc. and will run heaver weight moving forward.

One of the trailing arms upper heim joints was "duct taped" with hose clamps. Complete rear suspension will get replaced with spares.

Robby and team are in good spirit and optimistic to continue the rally.

This rally is killer.

Finish 1st
Also, as awesome as the LS engine is, the oil pumps kinda suck. Pick up air issues, pumps weak, I know dyno testing does test the engines but hope they put a pump in it.

I'd think they're running dry sump?

Oh true. Didn't think of that

the single most prominent reason to use a Chevrolet LS7 is ,it's a production dry sump engine. The next is it's weight, aluminum block, bore stroke ratio, titanium rods, overall production construction. And cost.
And it's FIA/ASO 'Production' legal.

Very true. You dont have to sell me on the LS7.

I just saw some fantastic footage on european TV of what appeared to be the Mini's drafting in pairs, touching bumpers nose to tail at full speed across the salt flats this morning. Just amazing - no wonder they made good time.

Thats called tandem man. No differnt than how they slept in the bunks last night
Lol.

A shame to see Robby having so many issues this year. As his form proves that if the car is OK he is up there with the rest.

I'm glad to see Chicherit made it to the finish Haven't seen what happened to him yet, but he's still in the rally. #nevergiveup
