STAGE 9 TRACKING

STAGE 9: BELEN > BELEN

Connection 111km | Special Stage 285km | Total 396km

COURSE OVERVIEW

This loop stage will not really be one for motorbikes and quad bikes, which will finish the first part of this second marathon stage in an isolated bivouac. Prior to this they will have spent the day, alongside the drivers in the other categories, almost entirely off-piste, both in the vegetation-scattered dunes and on harder terrains, sometimes on river beds. Physically, the day might prove to be a significant challenge, as the mercury soars. The hardiest drivers will also be those who are the most clear headed, able to make the right navigational choices, a major challenge of this special section.

The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Wow. This will be a memorable Dakar in too many ways.

Damn El Nino

This Dakar is a chaotic disaster

According to Dakar twitter, looks like the stoppage is only for bikes and quads

I was hoping it would be only for bikes and quads. That would make sense.

Now since when did sense have Anything to do with ASO and Dakar?

Cars have A/C. Makes sense.

I really don't understand this. I thought Dakar was a test of endurance, racing, mechanics, etc. Did it get to hot to race in the SAHARA desert?

Exactly, this race has lost some of its notorious grueling stages by moving, now it's turning into a tour instead of a challenge?

Let's blame the Millennials for making everyone weak. That or we can blame there parents. ;?)

Per Dakar site, this will test out the purported French bias......The Mini team filed a complaint yesterday, against Stéphane Peterhansel, the current leader of the general standings, due to refuelling conducted in an unauthorised zone (180 km from the end of the special). As a result, the race officials have opened an inquiry to check whether this refuelling was illegal or not.Peugeot Sport team director Bruno Famin confirmed the filing of the complaint, whilst pointing out that, “this refuelling was legal because it was on the road-book. I don’t understand the complaint and we’re waiting to find out more about it”.Should the complaint be deemed valid, Stéphane Peterhansel, who has been summoned to see the race officials this evening, could receive a 6-hour penalty or even be disqualified.

...typically they penalize and then wait for a team to contest their decision....
