STAGE 9 TRACKING
STAGE 9: BELEN > BELEN
Connection 111km | Special Stage 285km | Total 396km
COURSE OVERVIEW
This loop stage will not really be one for motorbikes and quad bikes, which will finish the first part of this second marathon stage in an isolated bivouac. Prior to this they will have spent the day, alongside the drivers in the other categories, almost entirely off-piste, both in the vegetation-scattered dunes and on harder terrains, sometimes on river beds. Physically, the day might prove to be a significant challenge, as the mercury soars. The hardiest drivers will also be those who are the most clear headed, able to make the right navigational choices, a major challenge of this special section.
The GREEN section of the route is the connection , the RED is the Special Section of the stage.

Just read on Motorsport.com -
Stephane Peterhansel will keep second place in the Dakar Rally after organisers have cleared the Peugeot driver of any wrongdoing.
The 11-time Dakar winner was under investigation after rival X-raid squad claimed Peterhansel had refueled in an unauthorised area during Monday's eighth stage of the event.
If found guilty, the Peugeot driver could have been excluded from the Dakar.
However, Dakar organisers ASO deemed that Peterhansel's refueling was in accordance with the rules.
The Frenchman lost the lead of the event to Peugeot teammate Carlos Sainz in Tuesday's stage and now trails the Spaniard by seven minutes with four stages left to run.
Wouldn't have guessed any different. Did any other drivers do the same thing? Was he the only one to refuel where he did? We will never know...........
That does seem a bit blatant, doesn't it? I wonder of any competitors will question this publicly.
Astonishing really. No wonder he was able to get it all fixed up yesterday.
Just fly me in a few parts here and there. LOL
I certainly was wondering about this myself. You're in trouble, so a chopper shows to help ? I can't say I remember this sort of assistance being provided to any of the other competitors, and on top of it all, it ends up being the director of the race ? If it were anyone else showing up in a chopper to provide assistance, would it be considered a violation of race rules ? It looks like two of them showed up...
