This is a new article today on the Charter/Franchise system just introduced in NASCAR's Cup division. A lot of folks have misconceptions of what it is, why it is and what it does. @PattyKay, the topic is still being debated in Premium. At this point,it's good to have a Charter. Who got screw'd ? The info is still being gathered.
From a spectators point of view, how does it make racing better?
What incentive is there for a start up to be a start up?
This may make it hard for a talent , say a Sheldon Creed to make a start with a non-Charter team. Cutting the field also cut opportunities.

It's too big a topic for one old lady to cover in one article. At first, the average fan, if any are left, will notice nothing. The teams however, will offer at least slight improvements in performance this year over last, and that should increase with time. At first, there will be very little start-up incentive, but there is zero to none right now. Teams are living nicely on finishing last. When it's truly based on performance that will either improve markedly or that charter will be removed.
I know that everyone is looking at the Wood Brothers team as having been "screwed", but you'll find that both Len and Eddie (second generation) along with Jon (third) have all concurred that they knew early on what the situation was and that they were content with it. They never expected to get a charter, and were not surprised. Their full-year participation this year was only to be an experiment and their full-time may not continue past this year... having nothing whatsoever to do with the Charter. There is a piece on Yahoo Sports on it that covers quite a bit of that.
The idea of rookies starting at the bottom and working forward toward a good team is not new; it's what I grew up with. Until Jeff Gordon, that was just the way it was, and sometimes, when the money and such get way out of hand, it's not a bad idea to return to what was. It worked fine then, and it can work again. The point is, all of the absolute power no longer rests solely with NASCAR.

What's wrong with (if's not broke don"t fix it) thinking, NASCRAP sucks

Empty grandstands and plummeting TV ratings indicate to most thinking folks that something was broken. I take it you don't care for stock car racing or those that participate in it in any way. Why then do you feel compelled to comment on my articles, which are clearly labeled as "NASCAR?" Spare yourself the pain. Don't read.

@PattyKay, Speedy's comments are neutral compared to my gut and the limited amount of time I can apply to follow the ever developing release of info.It reminds me of Obamacare, everyday new things come out about Charters and its not good.

Mike, if you had followed me over the years at all, you'd know that I never take a side I don't believe in, and I've sat patiently in the wings watching all of this from the very first day the RTA came into existence. It's not my job or my intention to convince anyone of anything. I pride myself in doing good research and knowing my subject before I ever start to type. I am more than familiar with the animosity that exists for almost anything that surrounds NASCAR these days, and it makes me weep for the time when it was all roses and sunshine... except that time never existed.
I'll be posting another article today, and your friend "Speedy" has already voiced his unsolicited opinion on the subject on a completely different thread. So be it.
I asked before posting these articles if it were permissible and/or desirable to do so and you said they would be welcome. I love comments and discussion, but derision is not borne well, nor is it necessary. I am just the messenger, and I have no intention of being drawn into a board fight at my tender age. ☺

I guess I'm the last NASCAR fan standing! I remember, years ago I was invited to be on our churches council. Boy was that an eye opener! You, whom have the opportunity to know the inner workings of NASCAR, seam to hate it, so I prefer not to know who screwed whom. It doesn't matter or effect my life or family. My wife and I have a ball at our annual race weekend! We go to a different races once a year and love it! I'm a fan because of Robby Gordon! I met him, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon all at the same race. I've been to many Mets and Yankee games, Jet games etc and never got a "hello" from a player! At least NASCAR listens to its fans! Sorry, hate me if you feel necessary.

Bravo David! I've been a fan since the 1950s and I'm still here, hanging on. My husband passed several years back, so it's been quite some time since I've been able to go to a track, and know that now I couldn't begin to make the climb to the seats we treasured back then. I still turn on my TV, sometime aided by MRN, and watch my racing. They say there's no fan like an old fan, and I've got that part covered. ~LOL

We went to Dover last year, the steps were a killer....then we found the elevator! Lol!!

I didn't mean to hit a nerve, BUT, when the restart changed and people, fans, couldn't see it, they made many changes to help fans see the restart clearly...just one example.
Wood Bros got screwed....
