The latest from our buddy Dave Moody...

The joint merger/buyout whatever, of GEM and PE will end up "Richard Petty Racing". No more Gillette-Evernham. Richard will become a figurehead. Petty Enterprises-the race team, will no longer exist.

Here's what does not make sense... They will remain a three car team from Moody what has been able to find out, with Sorenson in the #43. (Even Dave is confused about that one, so stay tuned) So, why merge?

What is the logic behind putting Reed in the 43? I never understood why all of the reports and rumors on this have him there...the car is too iconic to have a plain vanilla fairly average driver with low name-recognition behind the wheel
Reed Sorenson shouldn't be in anything beyond a dirt modified.
Reed and JJ Yeley should share "I SUCK" stories...lol
When Boston Ventures bought PE I'm sure Richard's name was purchased with it.
Well, the soap opera goes on... Dave Moody reported today that the deal is Off.
No one knows why, but multiple sources are reporting no deal.
Maybe Richard doesn't want to be a 'figurehead' and maybe Gillette doesn't want to have no name recognition. Or it could be "shades of Robert Yates" ......on again/off again/on again/off again etc etc etc
With the demise of this deal, so how many viable cars will we have for the season? My guess is that it will be less then 35. So what is NASCAR going to do with the TOP 35 rule?
Jayski is reporting that the deal is still being negotiated. GEM folks deny that there was a problem.
