Two teams looking to answer big questions find Petty Enterprises as the answer.

DEI has merged with Ganassi and had all the pieces coming together except one...a contract clause that would allow Martin Truex, Jr and sponsor Bass Pro Shops to bolt. The way to keep everything together was find a driver that made officials at Target happy. The answer was Bobby Labonte.

On the other side of the gararge, GEM was desperately seeking a fourth team. They went through negotiation with Robby Gordon & Bill Davis, but both turned out unsuccessful. The answer was Petty Enterprises.

By finding a way to release Bobby Labonte, the opportunity openned for both teams to find their answers. Bobby Labonte will be hired at DEI/Ganassi in the Target ride (Number to be decided), while GEM will acquire or merge the famous #43 team for driver Reed Sorenson. It's expected AJ Allmendinger will be hired to remain with the #10 team.

This will end Petty Enterprises, but it's expected Petty will still retain some ownership with the #43 team.

Is this an article, speculation, or you putting clips of news together?
How does Gillette have resources to acquire anybody? The deal with BDR failed because Gillette could not get financing.
Look up the trouble he is in at his other sporting ventures.

Consider this... a trade, sort of.... Labonte for the FASTENALL sponsorship at PE. PE looks to survive another year with only one car still as a DODGE team.

FASTENALL is a contracted supplier to CHRYSLER from what I've been told and that's why they needed out of the NNS deal with Ganassi and could not step up to a Cup deal with them. From all accounts it's accepted that the new DEI/CGR will remain Chevy. GEM has been trying to jump ship, most likely to TOYOTA so they are not a good fit for FASTENALL either.

The deal with BDR & GEM was stopped by Nascar. They wouldn't allow GEM to leave Dodge. Mainly because GEM provided engines for other Dodge teams.

Financially, Dodge was hurting and allowed Ganassi out of it's deal, but insisted GEM & Penske hold to their deals. Nascar backed Dodge and nixed the deal with BDR & GEM.
This is a from waht I'm hearing from my media source in Charlotte
Bobby Labonte will drive the #41 Target Chevrolet for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing in 2009, joining Martin Truex, Jr., Juan Pablo Montoya and Aric Almirola as part of a newly merged, four-car team. Labonte has not commented since announcing his split from Petty Enterprises last week, and the new Earnhardt-Ganassi operation remains in a virtual media lockdown. However, multiple sources close to the situation tell Sirius Speedway that a deal to put Labonte in the #41 is signed, sealed and delivered, after receiving the approval of sponsor Target. Work has already begun on the necessary promotional infrastructure -- photo shoots, marketing campaigns, ancillary programs, etc. -- for the coming season.(Sirius Speedway/Motorsports Soapbox

If the Petty deal happens I'll be curious to see what spin they put on Petty's longstanding opposition to being associated with alcohol sponsorship.
