Join us for the Dakar Rally's second day on Jan 4, 2009 , right here and chat about the action during the 2nd stage.

Stage 2 - Sunday, January 4
Santa Rosa > Puerto Madryn
Connection: 0 km | Special: 237 km | Connection: 600 km | Total: 837 km
The longest stage of the rally will not necessarily be the most difficult. However, it should still be approached with vigilance and, above all, will a complete set of rally equipment. After a rapid first part of the special, a foretaste of sand will be proposed. On the off-roads of this stage, copilots will need to pay careful attention to their course. The more distracted will begin to “turn in circles”.

How much money will the winner take home.
Not sure... But I don't think it is much.
A little is better than none.
I would expect a winning driver from Mitsubishi, VW or BMW will take home little more than their salary.

I have no what idea what the purse is though.
starting to go through KM225 now. Tracker missed KM165. Sainz through first.
looks like the "live tracking" is back to being fubar. Nobody or times listed for KM165, but for KM 225 they have 4 cars listed:

301 Sainz 1h 44m 54 sec
305 De Villiers +1m 49sec
308 Miller +4m 22 sec
302 Al Attiyah + 6m 47s
with there only being 12km between KM225 and the Finish, the 4 cars to reach KM 225 should be finishing soon.
The first 3 cars have finished the stage:

1 301 SAINZ (ESP) 10:31:14 01:56:14
2 305 DE VILLIERS (ZAF) 10:35:10 01:58:10
3 302 AL ATTIYAH (QAT) 10:35:46 02:02:46
now 6 through

1 301 SAINZ (ESP) 10:31:14 01:56:14
2 300 PETERHANSEL (FRA) 10:40:28 01:57:28
3 305 DE VILLIERS (ZAF) 10:35:10 01:58:10
4 303 ALPHAND (FRA) 10:41:08 02:00:08
5 308 MILLER (USA) 10:41:30 02:02:30
6 302 AL ATTIYAH (QAT) 10:35:46 02:02:46
