Stage 6 - Thursday, January 8
San Rafael > Mendoza
Connection: 76 km | Special: 395 km | Connection: 154 km | Total: 625 km
The day’s program is once again full of crossings, since the special begins with around sixty kilometers of dunes. The trail becomes easier in the second part, but competitors might well be slowed down by a wide ford that must be crossed with exceeding skill to avoid an extended bath. On arrival at Mendoza, the rally will penetrate the foothills of the Andes mountain range.

Hummer 2 finished the stage ans in 31st place O/A. That is great news for the team!

Let's hope stage 6 does to the withdrawl list what stage 4 and 5 did.... I predict baring any major problems, RG will be in the top 6 by days end.

THERE HAS BEEN A ROUTE MODIFICATION FOR THIS 6TH STAGE. Due to the difficulty of the 5th stage, the organizers have decided to postpone the departure of the day’s special by two hours. As a result, the special stage will start at 08.35. Furthermore, the distance of the day’s timed section has been reduced and will only measure 178 km, since an impassable river ford has forced the route to be shortened… Lastly, yesterday’s stage has been neutralized. As a result, a total of 385 competitors have been authorized to start this 6th stage... From the dakar site!!

I might be dense but is that reduction the first 178km or the last? If it was the first part of the stage that would greatly increase RG's chances for a stage win. I was worried about this ford.. with the Monster Hummer starting third he would have been able to literally pass the first two cars in the sand and be the front runner to the ford crossing. it would have broke my heart to see RG lose it in the river if the crossing was as bad as they made it out to be. But that isn't a problem now and it should be a good day. BTW what do they mean by yesterday's stage has been neutralized?

The big news will be if Peterhansel makes the start or not.

Leaving in the top five will definately help RG.
