Stage 7 - Friday, January 9

Mendoza (ARG) > Valparaiso (CHL)

Connection: 80 km | Special: 419 km | Connection: 317 km | Total: 816 km
The variety of terrains and landscapes, a constant given for the Dakar 2009, is evident once again on this stage, where, in addition to a change of country, most of the competitors will get to know the Cordillera of the Andes. Before measuring themselves with the mountains, they must cross over a series of dunes and endure a session of fesh fesh, which is identical to Saharan sand, but which the inhabitants of the region call “guadal”. Concerning the mountains, this will be the only special to include passageways at 3,000 meters on technical routes that will sometimes allow a glimpse of the Aconcagua, the highest point in the Andes (6,959 m). Then, competitors will cross the border on the link section to reach the sea at Valparaiso.

Ah ha......that makes a lot of sense, good insight!!
It does seem like there has been some strange "route modifications". I thought it was supposed to be the worlds toughest race, now they keep shortening it to make it easier. There is no shame in getting your rear end handed to you by Robby in an off-road race.
Yesterday's modification makes perfect sense. There is no purpose in trying to get drivers killed by crossing a river that can't be crossed.

Today's, I'm not so clear on.
RG opens his gap on 6th by 9 more minutes.
Still no sign of Peterhansel & grettle
He must have the marshmellows out by now!
Your crackin me up
Vigouroux is 7th - 11:30 back
Another good finish> seems he is getting the hang of The Monster blood.
Well it looks like are 3rd is safe.
Props to Vigorofigaro for his run today......

Now...if we can just get them to quit shortening these so the leadears don't "Go up in smoke"......should be rockin and a rollin....

1/2 through....running 5th..only Bummer is we are down more than 1 hour....but I guess at Dakar...there is MUCH worse shit than being down an hour.....just ask PeterPuffer, who is toasting Marshmellows over his engine...or AL wallawalllabingbongdingdong who got DQ'd for cheatingh......
Don't know if its been posted already but here is a clip of RG flipping the hummer.....crazy incar footage
