Stage 8 - Sunday, January 11

Valparaiso > La Serena

Connection: 245 km | Special: 294 km | Connection: 113 km | Total: 652 km
After a day of rest on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, an easier restart has been programmed. On mid-range mountain roads, driving hotshots should be able to really strut their stuff. The experts in car positioning, trajectory and sudden braking will show how it’s done. But for the rally leaders, there is certainly more to be lost than won during this stage.

“For us, it was a pretty good special. There was a little bit of mud at the end. I have to say for the first section we were right in the fight for the lead, but the last section where there was mud, since we have a two-wheel drive I was very conservative and cautious. We gave up probably 5 or 6 minutes to Sainz just in the last 70 kilometers. My Hummer is still hanging in there. We lost 35 minutes yesterday when we got lost, and that might make the difference at the end of the day between winning the rally or not. I’m happy to be half way there. We’ve come here for the win and we won’t stop until the finishing line, we’re pushing as hard as we can, but you’ve got to be smart: a lot of cars are starting to drop out of the rally. It’s still possible. The Volkswagens often break down during the last week”.

Does anyone know the difference is size between the size of the Hummer and the other cars. Also does anyone know the horsepower of the other cars?

VW's 280 HP, Hummer has about 400 HP (Restricted) usually it would have 700 + HP.

The VW is however making about 600ftlbs of tq. A little bit more than The Monster.

and my random thought of the day...since it is on TBS right now...How come in the opening scene of Twister, where Helen Hunt is a little girl and they show her dad getting sucked out of the tornado room holding the door, did the dad attempt to hold the door down when the wife/mom clearly outweighed him by a good hundred or so pounds and clearly would have been the smart choice?
