We are at the first step of a decisive trilogy. The reputation of the Atacama Desert, known as the world’s driest, will be tested by the competitors. Those who hope to find dunes will be rewarded. But they will also be fed a generous helping of rocks. This stage is typical of the Dakar 2009, with numerous changes of terrain. The positioning of difficulties, with long stretches of dunes at the end, will require pilots to conserve their strength. They must show themselves to be both multi-talented and with a firm sense of how to manage their efforts.

According to Robby, of the remaining stages, this is going to be the most challenging for the Hummer.

We will move up one more spot tomorrow. Plenty of open terrain to swallow up that Mitsubishi or a Rabbit.

What is the purpose of the Liaison? Do they race on it or is it a travel road to the next special?

This special should take ~5.5 hours plus 1.5 hours on the liaison.

Think of them as caution laps. You have to drive them, but you can't race them!

Just finished hearing Geniel's interview. He was bitching about Robby that he had to follow him for an 1.5 hours. Robby refused to move of the narrow track. He said he was able to overtake Robby, as Robby choose the wrong track. So they have gotton lost again, which means Andy is in trouble.

Anyway, who said racing is fair. Robby go for it, by hook or by crook.

Aperently if we come up with a nickname for a driver he is out of the rally the next day. So here goes.
